Panelák

Panelák is the colloquial name of blocks of high-rise panel buildings in the Czech Republic and Slovakia constructed of pre-fabricated, pre-stressed concrete. Between 1959 and 1995, paneláks containing 1.17 million flats were built in what is now the Czech Republic. They house about 3.5 million people, or about one-third of the country's population. This particular one still stands in the center of Zlín.

Do you live in such a building?

I do not....but I very well could have! I live in what's called a âinÏak...which is a smaller building than a palnelák and is not prefabricated. Just your basic concrete apartment building. Mine is only 5 floors but the one in the pic is 13 floors, complete with grocery store and other commercial stops on the ground floor.

Looks like your international keyboard is misbehaving. Alas, so is mine. Every now and then it refuses entirely to switch to Czech, so I can't refer to either type of construction just now.
